In 2015 Shaun Smith set upon his first and many trips from Tyneside to Scotland, visiting the clubs which have won the prestigious Scottish Junior Cup during his lifetime, a trophy which has been contested for since 1887 and is affectionately known as “The Holy Grail of Scottish football”
The author reviews the history of each club, exploring the old pit villages, satellite towns and industrial areas from where they are based.
The book look at his matchday ritual, OCD collecting, his musical passion and is semi-autobiographical, with links to his past as a long suffering Newcastle United fan.
So follow Shaun’s progress of visiting 22 grounds in 22 months as he heads north of the border from the Toon to the Joons on the trail of the Scottish Holy Grail.

BEECHWOOD REGENERATION COMMITTEE UPDATE

CATERING FACILITIES

Quotes for the new catering facility are being finalised with grant applications now nearing submission. It is anticipated that this part of the process will take around three months. When results of the applications are known, the committee will be in the position to agree a timescale for the building to be completed.

A great hard fought victory against a team sitting in 3rd place in the league, Talbot pressured the visitors into conceding an early own goal and never looked back, the boys pressed them all over the pitch and started playing with great confidence which showed when Michael McCulloch expertly chipped a Rabona pass through past the on rushing defender, Josh Jones scored his second hat-trick of the season and scooped the man of the match award ,taking his tally now to 16 ,Michael Kane deservedly scored his 4th of the season with a well-placed finish. Kyle Shankland also nailed the crossbar from some distance with a rocket of a shot that had the bar shaking for some time afterwards, The lads play Beith on Tuesday night and Hurlford on Saturday

Rosemary and Hugh kindly donated a bottle of Talbot Whisky (see attached photos) to Auchinleck Talbot FC to enable us to raise funds in memory of Sam McCulloch for Alzheimer’s Scotland. This will take the format of a raffle with tickets being sold from behind the bar in the Talbot Social Club costing £1 each, and will run till the end of March. All proceeds will go to Sam’s Family to donate to this cause.
