TALBOT TRAVEL TO THE VALE ON SATURDAY WHILE TROON NAMED AS VISITORS THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

Talbot travel to Alexandria next week to take on WOSL Third Division side Vale of Leven in the Scottish Junior Cup 4th Round. This will be  the first ever meeting of the two clubs, and it should attract a decent crowd to the sprawling terraces of Millburn Park. The Vale who were Junior Cup winners back in 1953 when they beat Annbank United 1-0 at Hampden in front of 55,000 have been finding the going a bit tough as they languish in the second bottom tier of the WOSL

They have already disposed of Newmacher, Carluke Rovers and Montrose Roselea in the cup and will be desperate to add a big scalp to this season’s tournament.

The Millburn Park club are steeped in history winning the SFA Scottish cup three times in a row back in the 1800’s.  At the start of  World War Two , Vale Of Leven promptly joined the ranks of the SJFA thus bringing to a final end 67 years of membership of the SFA  an association the club had helped to create. Their first junior match was against Vale of Clyde at Milburn Park in 1940 with the Vale’s proudest junior moment winning the Junior Cup in 1953.

The match has a 1.30 KO due to Millburn Park having no lights.

Last Saturday Troon became the opposition in the Indigo Comms West of Scotland Cup after defeating  Girvan 5-1 at Portland Park. The game takes place on Saturday 9th December with a 2pm KO.
