REMEMBERING THREE LEGENDS

There will be a minutes silence to remember three Talbot legends who recently passed away over the last three weeks. The mark of respect will take place before our match against Hurlford. Hugh McDonald, Bert Ferguson and Willie “Cherry” Bryce all held different positions within the club, but were all instrumental in our rise through the ranks. They will always be remembered at Beechwood Park.

CHERRY BRYCE

It is with great sadness that Auchinleck Talbot announces the passing this morning of Willie (Cherry) Bryce. Cherry was a stalwart and committee man who gave freely of his time and raised a great amount of money for the club over the years.

Cherry was a real character and well known and loved by all who knew him not only in Patna & Auchinleck but throughout the entire Cumnock & Doon Valley District through his work as a rent collector with the council.

The club would like to pass on our thoughts and condolences to his daughter Lynne and to all the Bryce family for their sad loss. He will forever be remembered with fondness by all at Beechwood Park.

BERT FERGUSON

It’s is with great sadness that the club announces the passing of Talbot legend Bert Ferguson who was so instrumental in the rise of Auchinleck Talbot during the Willie Knox era. Bert had played senior with Ayr, St Mirren and Stranraer before turning Junior. He was capped for Junior Scotland when playing for Talbot and scored many vital goals to help the club gather their impressive haul of trophies.

Every Talbot supporter who watched Bert in the famous gold and black will have their own special memories of him. The best was undoubtably when he scored a screamer against Annbank and turned to the crowd and shouted “Just call me Zico”

The club would like to pass on their condolences to Bert’s family, and to let them know he will never be forgotten at Beechwood Park.

TALBOT THANKS

Auchinleck Talbot FC wishes to thank NANETTE HOLROYD for her recent kind donation towards our Development Fund.

Auchinleck Talbot FC also wishes to thank DOUGIE HASTIE OF J.D. SERVICES (SCOTLAND) LTD for the recent first class works carried out on the installation of the ball netting structure behind both goals at Beechwood Park, and his very generous donation towards our Development Fund.

CONGRATULATIONS are in order for Auchinleck Talbot Under18s following their impressive 4-2 over Ayr United in the SFA Scottish Youth Cup

HEADING FOR CARLUKE?

Talbot head to Carluke this Saturday to take on the local Rovers at the John Cumming Stadium in the Macron Scottish Cup 2nd round. Carluke are currently sitting 11th in the Conference B Division with four wins out of twelve games, one of their wins being last week where they defeated Renfrew 4-2 at New Western Park. They have been on the wrong side of a few hefty defeats recently with a 6-1 hammering by Cambuslang and an 8-0 defeat by Greenock.

Jack McDowall makes it 5-0

The last time the clubs met was a West of Scotland Cup match at Beechwood on the 20th April where  Talbot ran out 6-0 winners thanks to a double by Graham Wilson, and goals by David Waite, Jack McDowall, Keir Samson and a late penalty by Gordon Pope.

The Rovers play their football at the purpose built John Cumming Stadium which has a  running track around it. The playing surface is plastic and with the ground built on the top of a hill, conditions can play a big part in a game especially if played in a strong wind.

Most supporters gather at the side where the complex is which houses a shallow covered enclosure for 100 spectators. With the BBC weather forecast expecting rain next Saturday then if you can’t get in the enclosure bring a brolly.

The kick off is 2.30pm and the stadium has a catering facility where chicken curry pies have been mentioned.

See you all there folks.

TALBOT DRAW THE “PANNERS”

Sundays live Scottish Cup round two draw see’s the lads on the road again as we travel to Prestonpans to take on the local Preston Athletic. Preston currently play their football in the East of Scotland First Division Conference B and have already beaten Threave Rovers and Lossiemouth to progress into the second round.

They currently sit fourth in their division two points behind Lochore Welfare but with three games in hand. Their home ground is Pennypitt Park which boasts a tidy little seasted stand. The tie is earmarked for the 23rd October.

Our other WOSL clubs pulled some plum ties with Cumnock if they overcome Formartine hosting Forfar, Clydebank at home to Elgin while Darvel travel to Stranraer.

TALBOT TRAVEL TO ROB ROY IN THE KILMARNOCK PIE CUP.

Talbot have been drawn away from home in the newly formed WOSL Cup 1st round against fellow Premier side Rob Roy. The competition which is backed by Brownings the makers of the Kilmarnock pie will involve all WOSL clubs in a knockout format. KPWOSFLCPrelimDraww.png?resize=620%2C310

TRAVELLING TO THE MEDDA

Talbot travel to Irvine this Saturday to face the local Meadow in the tie of the round Scottish Cup match which should attract a bumper crowd. The Meadow are bossed by Talbot legends Colin Spence and James Latta and are currently sitting seventh in the Premier League with six wins, two draws and three defeats. For the record their three league defeats have all been at Meadow Park and the victors have all been Ayrshire sides.

However the North Ayrshire side have shown some fighting qualities drawing with Darvel and Clydebank while turning over Cumnock at Townhead. They also qualified for this round by defeating East Region side Musselburgh 2-1 in the preliminary round.

The Meadow have four ex-Talbot players in their midst with defenders Martin Findlay and Jamie Whyte, alongside midfielder Kyle Faulds and striker Dylan Pooler.

Meadow Park has a seated stand and a number of small enclosures, and the Talbot support will be asked to stay in the terrace across from the stand and behind the Wilson Avenue goals.

Stewards and Police will be present at both Wilson Avenue and James Crescent gates.
Auchinleck Talbot fans are free to use either gate but will be directed to Away terracing area. The catering facility will be open for away fans who must return to their designated area.
There will be no alcohol permitted and Irvine Meadow have asked all fans to behave in a fitting manner as well as refraining from obscenities being shouted.

The referee for the match is Duncan Nicolson and he will be aided by assistants Craig Macrae and Mark Catterson.

The BBC weather forcast has it down as light cloud with slight breeze with a 17% chance of rain.

HUGH McDONALD

It is with great sadness that the club announces the passing of Hugh McDonald who many of us will remember as the club trainer and coach during the Willie Knox era. Hugh was an exceptional person who was loved by the fans and players of the club.

He will always be remembered sitting in the dugout with Knoxy as the pair were known as a Junior football double act.  He was part of the club’s history and his involvement in the rise of the Talbot in the late 70’s and then on to the record breaking “Three in a Row” will never be forgotten.

The club would like to pass on their condolances to Hugh’s family in this time of sadness.

Picture: Hugh bottom right.
