TALBOT WELCOME LOSSIEMOUTH UNITED

This Saturday Talbot embark on their 2024/25 Scottish Junior Cup adventure with a visit from North of Scotland JFA’s  Lossiemouth United.  The lads from Phoenix Park have a daunting 400+ mile round trip to play this match so hopefully the players, officials and supporters have an enjoyable visit to Beechwood.

The Junior side currently play in the NJFA Championship which is a division below the Premier which hosts Bridge of Don FC who took us to a penalty shoot out last season up in Aberdeen.

United are sitting eighth in their division having only played three games, winning two with their only defeat being to New Elgin in the opening league match. Last week they enjoyed a 5-2 away win at Dufftown but it could prove to be a busy afternoon for United keeper Stephen Dey (Pictured right) as Talbot might have discovered their shooting boots after last weeks 4-1 win over Haddington.

Talbot have a 100% record at home against North opposition which they will be hoping to hang on too, but United are an unknown force so the lads will be showing the boys from the north the respect they deserve.

Get along to Beechwood this Saturday and cheer on the “Bot”

GARETH MOVES TO UNITED

Talbot stalwart Gareth Armstrong has left the club and joined our premier rivals Hurlford United for an undisclosed fee. Gareth who joined the Talbot back in July 2017 played over 240 games for the club, and won more than a few honours in the gold & black.

After joining from Troon the ex-Ayr United player made his debut against Glenafton Athletic (Home), on the 2nd August 2017, in the Ardagh League Cup. He scored his first competitive goal for Talbot against his former club Troon (Away), on the 12th May 2018, in the West of Scotland 3rd Round which we won 3-1.

Gareth made his debut for his new club last week against Troon playing 63 minutes in a 3-1 defeat. Everybody wishes him all the best in his new venture, and thanks him for all the amazing memories he left us with.

CUP DUTY SENDS TALBOT TO THE EAST

Talbot head out on the road again this time it’s the Scottish Cup Preliminary 2nd round  and our first ever visit to Haddington a town situated in East Lothian. Here we take on EOSL Premier Division side Haddington Athletic who are currently sitting mid table with three wins and three defeats.

The game takes place at Haddington’s tidy Millfield Park which boasts a 1,200 capacity along with a covered enclosure. Entry for the 3pm kick-off is £8 adults and £4 concession. Food available.

Athletic are captained by 31 year old  centre back Ali Simpson who is now on his seventh season with the club while up front we will need to watch for the likes of former Spartan’s winger Joe Tait and striker Tom Davies who spent time at Arniston and Newtongrange.

Athletic were 1-0 winners over Hutchinson Vale in the league so this will give us an idea of the current strength of our opponents, but it looks to be a tough tie. Talbot will be desperate to avenge last season’s disaster where we lost 1-0 at St Andrew’s, so we will have to be aware that nothing is taken for granted.

If you fancy a tipple before the match then you have the main sponsors bar, the Victoria Inn and near the ground the New Pheasant.

Set your sat-nav’s for Mill Wynd, Haddington, EH41 4DW and we hope to see you all there.

Willie Young Loyal bus leaves Talbot Club  11am via top shops, the Toll, Catrine, Mauchline and Hurlford.

Gareth Armstrong has been placed on the open to transfer list at his own request. Enquiries to Henry Dumigan on 07929525494.

TALBOT HEAD TO THE DRUM

Talbot will meet Glasgow side Drumchapel United in their first ever meeting since United moved up to the West of Scotland FA in the 2020/21 season. The Drum currently sit above us in third place by a point and have still to taste defeat this season on their home turf. Last week they made heavy weather of dispatching Glasgow Perthshire out of the South Cup but they are a formidable side with a number of players who have played in the SFL.

Probably their most noted player is Argyle McCoist the son of Rangers legend Ally, but in their midst is keeper Ryan Scully who played for Partick as well as former Kelty striker Botti Biabi

Drumchapel’s Donald Dewar Centre has come in for a lot of stick recently due to its sparse surroundings. The Scottish Non League website gives the capacity as 500, viewing can only be accessed from two sides, there is no terracing or cover and unsure if food is available. So to be safe have a big breakfast, and bring a brolly if the weather forecast is for rain. Also if your small get into the barriers early.

The kick off is set for 2pm and set your sat-nav for 220 Garscadden Road, Drumchapel, Glasgow, G15 8SX. Drumchapel train station is only 700 yards from the ground.

The Willie Young Supporters bus leaves the Talbot Club at 12noon.

Get along and roar the lads on to another three points.

Talbot v Hutchison Vale 17th August 2024 – Match Sponsor Awards

Talbot Thanks

Auchinleck Talbot wish to thank everyone who sponsored yesterday’s Challenge Cup Match and our first ever encounter with Hutchison Vale from Edinburgh. It was also lovely to see all the Hutchison players come into the lounge after the match where they were warmly welcomed and applauded by the sponsors.

On a lighter note, we had the Schoneville Family sponsoring a match for the first time since Scott joined the club. There was a fair bit of planning involved as they each have their own commitments many of which are football related, however this game was earmarked as one they could all attend together, only for Tucker to rotate the squad with no place for Scott. Tucker is pictured with the family receiving his friendly ear bashing.

Prior to the Man of the match awards, three belated awards were presented to players who were on holiday on the annual presentation day, all awards were presented by Club Treasurer Bobby Millar.

The Peter Bryce Memorial Trophy was won by Aiden Wilson.

The John Holroyd Memorial Trophy winner was Ruaridh Langan

The Goal of the season sponsored by MKM was won by Aiden Wilson for his strike against Darvel in the Junior Cup Semi-Final.

If you would like to sponsor future matches either as a business, a family celebration or just a great day out with friends, contact Colin Chisholm 07929 831057 for details of packages available.

Thanks to Craig McGhee for photographs.

The Old Crocks award was won by Andy Kerr and presented by Jim Torrance.

TALBOT TON UP BOYS SET THE RECORDS

Firstly its a big congratulations to Aiden Wilson and Mick Wardrope for clocking up their 150th and 100th Talbot appearance  respectively after Saturday’s game at Hurlford.

Another player to reach the three figured milestone is Neill McPherson who will reach his 100th West of Scotland Premier League appearance if he takes to the field on Wednesday night.

Also on Wednesday night Ali Boyle if selected will celebrate his 50th game for Talbot.

Congratulations to the lads and hopefully we will see many more matches to come.

LMS – Last Man Standing

FRIENDS OF AUCHINLECK TALBOT FUNDRAISER – “Last Man Standing”

Cover Photo shows our current champion Kenny Paterson receiving his prize from tournament organiser Jim Dunsmore.

The fourth series of our popular Last Man Standing Fundraising Competition starts next week when the English Premier League kicks off with a full set of matches running from Friday 16th until Monday 19th August.

To progress in the competition, entrants must select a winning team from each series of matches and each week anyone progressing must pick a team not previously chosen.

To win the event, an entrant must be the only remaining player, where this fails to occur, the prize money rolls over into the next competition.

This is a fun event; however, it also can turn what would otherwise be meaningless matches into engrossing encounters especially when each competition reaches the latter stages.

In the three previous competitions since we started, we have had two winners and one rollover. The first competition started in November 2023 and was won by Jim Halliday. Eight people remained as we moved into week five, however seven were beaten and Jim was victorious and was delighted to receive his prize just days before Christmas for a nice little Santa Bonus.

The second competition started in January 2024 and ran for eight weeks. Only two players remained in week eight, however defeats for West Ham & Bournemouth (both their selected teams) meant we had no winner, and the competition and prize money rolled over.

The last competition started in March and lasted eight weeks. Three players remained standing in round eight with each picking different sides. Only one was victorious and our last winner was ex-Talbot player Kenny Paterson. This was another timely little cash bonus for the winner as Kenny was travelling to Germany for the Euros shortly after with the Tartan Army.

Following the success of the three competitions, we were able to donate £1,100 to Auchinleck Talbot at the end of season. There was also a prize draw where every participant received one entry for every tournament they participated in. The winner was David Waddell, and the intention was that David would present the donation to the club on our behalf and receive a match hospitality package for two. David indicated that he would prefer to delay his hospitality to allow him to attend one of this season’s matches.

The cost of entry is a one-off payment of £10 for every competition. Half of this money is donated to the club, and we’re delighted that with one week still to go, over 60 people have entered. If you want to join the fun contact Morton Wright Jnr (07972 719553), Jimmy Dunsmore (07771 800950) or Tommy Milgrew (07718 768127). Selection picks and information are provided via What’s App and all participants will receive a list of the rules of the competition and updates on fundraising.
