After signing extensions to their contract central defender Craig McCracken and attacking midfielder Jamie Glasgow have joined Lowland League side BSC Glasgow on loan until the 31st of January. BSC currently sit third in the league behend Eat Kilbride and Kelty.

JOHN HOLROYD

John’s funeral service will be on Tuesday October 27th at 4pm. This will be strictly a family service due to limited space/restrictions. We will be looking to make this available for people to attend via a live stream on Facebook, and a separate website for those not on Facebook; details of this will be put out shortly.  JOHN HOLROYD

Auchinleck Talbot FC are still coming to terms with the loss of their larger than life supporter John Holroyd who through his wheeling and dealing in the world of football memorabilia raised well over £20,000 which was donated entirely to the Beechwood Regeneration Committee. He was a true gentleman and an avid Talbot fan o came to Beechwood in the 80’s after he reallocated to Thornhill from England.

Beechwood Regeneration Committee Treasurer Jim McAuley told the Chronicle. “I met John when he paid us his first visit, I was one of the editors of the Talbot fanzine at that time and he came up and introduced himself to me and my two colleagues. He told us that he had been watching games in the South of Scotland League but found the football poor quality. Then he explained why he had turned up at Beechwood which was down to some punter in a Thornhill pub telling him to get himself up to Auchinleck as they had a decent side.”

Jim added “John later told me he was instantly hooked, he loved the banter and the honesty that came with the Junior grade and the fact that he was made welcome at Auchinleck. I found him an interesting person and loved listening to his stories about his obsession with programme collecting so much so he persuaded me to go with him to a Programme Fair in Glasgow. Don’t get me wrong it was interesting especially the amount of money that was being thrown around but it was Anorak Central and not for me. ”

It was John’s interest that was to benefit the BRC when he decided to ask the fans to donate memorabilia which he would sell and pass on the proceeds to the project that was running at that time. The icing on the cake was when the new catering block was completed which housed a new Memorabilia Shop where he could sell his items.

John was also active in the Talbot Hall of Fame Committee as well as being involved in a number of projects in Thornhill where he helped out at the Music Festival and the local Food Bank. But it’s his fundraising for his beloved football club that makes him part of the Talbot folklore and the fact he raised so much money doing something he loved.

Jim explained “John has left a legacy at Beechwood; the money he raised was used to financially help us build a new enclosure, new toilets, a new catering block and finally the floodlights. My last connection with John was an email to tell me that he had deposited money into the BRC account for the floodlights. I find it hard to believe he will never be back at Beechwood, his booming voice and broad English accent could be heard all around the ground on match days…

It’s sad to think that when this pandemic is over and the team have a chance to play under the new lights John won’t be there. He worked hard to contribute to our venture and then never saw them lit up. I think I will have a lump in my throat that night.” We have lost a remarkable supporter and most of all a good friend,” He will be sadly missed by the Talbot Family.

You have football supporters and you have extraordinary football supporters and nobody could argue that John Holroyd was an extraordinary football supporter. His booming voice with the distinct English accent will now be forever lost to us, but in his passing he left a legacy at Beechwood Park due to his untiring fundraising through his wee programme shop that sat on the terrace of his beloved football ground.

He went on to raise well over £20,000 by selling merchandise and match programmes gifted to him by his fellow Talbot supporters, money that went to the new enclosure, the catering block and finally the floodlights. Sadly John never saw the floodlights shining upon “God’s Little Acre” but thanks to him he made it possible that we will.

John was our adopted Welshman; he was our friend as well as our fellow supporter. He will be forever missed, and will always be remembered. Goodbye “Big John” another of the Talbot family sadly taken from us.

From the club, the BRC and the Talbot support our hearts reach out to John’s family in these trying times. Our thoughts are with you all.

CLUB STATEMENT

The Committee of Auchinleck Talbot FC regretfully announce that due to the current restrictions placed on the Club, it is our intention now to withdraw from the West of Scotland League for Season 2020-21.The fact that no fans are allowed into games, and more importantly players not being allowed to use changingand washing facilities will have severe implications for the health and well – being of both Club and players.The Club considered that the best and safest way forward was to pause the season awaiting the possibility of restrictions being eased, this sadly was not the result of the recent all clubs ballot. As a Club we have aduty of care to our playing staff thus the reason we have come to this decision. We will update our fans regards the recent sale of season tickets and our intention to return all monies receivedfrom these in the next day or so.Finally we wish to thank our fans and sponsors who have continued to support the club throughout thisdifficult time, and assure them that we will return as strong as possible whenever it is safe to do so.
