Auchinleck Talbot wish to thank everyone who sponsored yesterday’s League Match against Cumnock. The John & Margo Kiltie Sponsor’s Lounge was full yet again with no fewer than nine man of the match awards given.

Prior to the awards, Kenny Paterson made a presentation to former player John McCool. John was recently on holiday to mark his 70^th Birthday and was a victim of burglary including a prized Talbot shirt that had been given to him for the occasion. Kenny quickly got the Loons involved and the Club also donated a replacement shirt. Kenny presented this along a gift of other memorabilia.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Colin Chisholm thanked Kenny and praised his work in arranging all the club hosts at match day hospitality along with ex-player visits and days within the club.

GOOD LUCK BIG MAN!

Players come and players go, Beechwood Park is no different, nobody is bigger than the club, but over the years players have added to the history of Talbot and this week we say goodbye to a legend who thrilled the Talbot faithful and earned grudging acknowledgement from our bitterest rivals.

Craig McCracken’s name is set in stone here at “God’s Little Acre”  but not just for being remembered for his goal that toppled Ayr United out the Scottish Cup, or his header that won the Scottish Cup for the twelfth time but for the fact he was a players player, and a gentleman on and off the park.

In his eight years with Talbot he played 207 times, scored 39 goals and never once received a red card. Along with Neil McPherson the two of them were regarded as the best central pairing ever to wear the black and gold.

He has now struck out on a new venture stepping up a grade in the Lowland League where we hope he makes his mark with his new club Linlithgow Rose and enjoys a prosperous time in the East Region.

On behalf of everybody connected to Talbot we wish you all the best. You were one of a kind, and that number five shirt will be hard to fill. “GOOD LUCK”

WEST OF SCOTLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION

Talbot will embark on a week of football which should provide a guide to how our squad are progressing. This Saturday we entertain Michael Oliver’s new look Darvel. The new manager has had to contend with a Recreation Park exodus which got worse at the weekend when club captain Davie Syme jumped ship to join league rivals Clydebank for a fee that is reputed to be in the five figures.

It’s then off to Johnstone Burgh on Tuesday night to face the big spending Burgh, before entertaining our old rivals Cumnock.

Three big games and we want you there to cheer us on.

Apart from the SFA Scottish Cup the fans are now in full knowledge about where Talbot’s silverware trail begins. We will only be six games into the season when Talbot hosts East of Scotland Premier side Hutchison Vale in the South Challenge Cup 1st Round. The Hutchie finished a creditable fifth last season in their division which was dominated by Broxburn Athletic.

The Edinburgh side made little inroads in the cup runs last season, but will be a major threat to Talbot in what should be a keenly contested match. The winners will be pitted against Bo’ness Athletic away in round two.

After receiving a bye in the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup Talbot once again were awarded a home tie which has set up a David and Goliath scenario as North Region SJFA side Lossiemouth  United visit Beechwood. United are currently playing in the North Region Championship which is the league below the North Premier. Last season they finished fourth in a competitive division.

After the shambles of the West Cup draw Talbot are down to travel to Tollcross as the redrawn competition has pitted the “Bot” with Vale of Clyde who gained promotion to the 1st Division last season after finishing runners up to Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

If our records are correct Talbot last visited the Vale back in September 2009 where Sean McIlroy, Stevie Mallan, Ricky Robb and Danny McKelvie helped the “Bot” to a 4-1 league win. A year later Talbot were to record their highest ever WOS Cup result when they hammered the Vale 14-0 in a first round tie at Beechwood with Davie Gillies scoring 5 of the goals.

Wednesday’s match at Irvine Meadow has been cancelled by the North Ayrshire club for reasons unknown to the website. Our next match will be this Saturday at Beechwood when Talbot legend Davie Gormley brings his Thorniewood United side down to Auchinleck for our last pre-season match before the league opens on the 27th July.
