TALBOT WEEKLY NEWS

BEECHWOOD REGENERATION REPORT 2018

In last year’s report, we mentioned two projects that were being planned by the Regeneration Committee. The first was the upgrade of the groundsman’s hut / club shop. We’re happy to say that this work has been fully completed with new steel shutters now securing the building.

The other project was looking at alternative facilities for matchday hospitality. This is taking a bit more time and the committee have considered a number of options very carefully. For various reasons, the upgrading of the portacabin mentioned last year has been ruled out. The current thinking of the committee is to look at a bigger scale project that will benefit the club on a number of fronts. We’ve approached an architect to draw up some options on developing underneath the Minerals Trust stand including the relocation of the dressing rooms. This would improve the players’ facilities, with the additional benefit of meeting the requirements for youth / girls’ teams. It would also free up space for sponsorship hospitality and it’s hoped that improving this area would generate more income for the club. This is at a very early stage and we will keep everyone updated through regular articles in the match programme.

Regardless of what option is selected, one requirement that will have to be met is the upgrade of the electricity supply at Beechwood. We’ve already decided to do this and we’ll be looking at completing this soon. It will ensure that when we do any more improvements to our facilities, this will not be something that needs to be revisited.

A lot of things being considered at the moment but it will take time. In the meantime, our thanks go to all fans for their continued support in everything we do.

Auchinleck Talbot Youth Academy Report 2018

Academy’s Development Award was secured in December 2017.A fantastic achievement and a credit to all our coaches, players, parents & officials who put so much effort & commitment into helping us gain the award.

Well done to all our teams who competed last season, success came our way with various cup and league winning performances from our teams.

A specialist Goalkeeping Coach has been added to the Academy setup this season, individual and group coaching session with our goalkeepers are now part of a regular coaching sessions. An addition that’s proving to be very popular and well attended.

Our new girls’ team is still in its infancy, but great progress has been made in securing female coaches with coaching sessions now well underway.

Playing & training facilities still continue to be a major headache for all our teams, little progress has been made on attempts to find a solution suitable for everyone, still in dialogue with East Ayrshire Council & Community Sports Hub over the Merlin & Auchinleck Academy playing Fields.

Several of our U19s have made it into the 1ST team squad for match days, a fantastic achievement, recognition, and just reward to the boys who were involved in coaching, warm up sessions & ultimately making their debut on match day.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of a long and successful partnership between the Academy & 1st team, in turn giving our youngsters the incentive to push on to the next level.

Thanks once again to all our coaches, players, parents, & helpers for their continued support, goes without saying without their effort & input we simply couldn’t exist or provide opportunities for our young people to play the game they love.

TALBOT ACADEMY

2008s….
Always a fiery fixture when these two teams meet and usually tight games and today was no different although Cumnock owe a lot to there Goalkeepers man of the match performance.
Talbot started the brighter of the teams, creating a couple of chances but unable to finish them. Cumnock looked to soak up Talbot pressure and hit on the counter attack when possible. Eventually the deadlock was broken when Jack Simpson drilled a low cross for the in-sliding Evan Bishop to tap home.  Continuing to dominate possession but being kept out by the in form Cumnock number 1.
The second half continued in the same fashion with Cumnock having little spells on the ball but mainly looking dangerous on the counter. After a well worked move and through on goal Jack was tripped and awarded a penalty. The chance to put the game to bed from 12 yards was squandered, from this Cumnock broke up the park and only a brilliant save from Josh Kerr kept his clean sheet.
Golds:- Derby day always brings a bit extra out in the young players and today Cumnock started the game well and put Talbot on the back foot in the first half scoring a couple of good goals and capitalising on some nervous defending. Talbot could have been in the end of a heavy defeat at this point, but a change in formation and a half time team talk resulted in a superb second half performance with Kaitlin, Jake & Tommy all getting in the scoresheet. Special mention to Connor Blackmore for a second half clean sheet and Tommy Hamilton for a superb performance in midfield today.
Special mention for all new boys acquired from the unfortunate folding of Nith Valley, they all slotted in and played a vital part in both games.
2009s….
Blacks:-
Firstly I would to thank Troon in helping with the numbers today great sportsmanship from them and great to see boys mixing together to play the game
Some really good football played from both sides today
Great to see the passing In our game the boys are moving the ball about well and seeing the rewards that come from this
Workrate is much better from every one of our boys as well and this makes a big difference to how we play , as a team they showed again today they are capable of playing good football both going forward and defensively
Man of the match today goes to luke
Superb finish to set the goals off , good hold up play again and some nice passing with his teammates
Could be a little stronger at times but for what he lacks in strength he compensates with ability
Well done boys 👏🏻
Well done luke ⚽️
Golds v Troon
Great start to the game this morning. Got ourselves into the lead and playing some really nice football. Keep it going all the way through the first half and caleb grabbing a couple of goals.
Second started slowly and Troon took advantage. Got ourselves back into it later on but tired legs started to show. And the woodwork denied us a couple of goals.
MOTM ⚽ Rudi – some really nice touches and passing and worked his socks off all game and a nice assist also well done Rudi.

Talbot on the road again

Talbot were drawn away to Highland League leaders Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup 2nd round. Cove come from the district called Cove Bay which is a part of Aberdeen.

A superb performance and a great way to bounce back from last weeks disappointment. Talbots passing game was a joy to watch, with glenafton really struggling to keep up with the tempo that talbot set.
2003s….
Talbot 0-5 Bellfield
Hard day at the office against a very good side
Despite having chances and getting stuck in talbot found themselves down 4-0 at half time with a few avoidable goals
Second half Bellfield were on it and looked good the talbot lads playing into the wind now found it hard to get out and conceded once more
Man of the match: talbot goalkeeper Michael nolan
2009s….
Golds
📍Irvine Vics
Tough match today against a very strong Irvine side. A few nice players in the opposing team tipped the scales in their favour. Very pleased though with the workrate, touch and passing from the lads all over the park. We are never going to be able to physically dominate games so we are starting to learn to pass around bigger lads to good effect. For me and Puggy passing is the most important part of the game and we have improved so much on this in a short space of time. We will continue to work on this in training as well as starting to incorporate some better movement when in possession of the ball.
MOTM Caleb – superb hold up play, passing at the right time, dribbling at the right time, excellent first touch and for such a young lad led the line brilliantly – just a wee goal missing from a brilliant performance
2008s….
Past results show that Talbot get plenty of joy when playing Dean Thistle, but going into the game we had to focus on the the task at hand.
Blacks:- After impressing in recent weeks Douglas and Tommy got there chance to bring that form into the todays fixture.
Getting off to the worst possible start, Talbot found thereselves a goal down after miscommunication between defender and goalie, the ball ended up in the back of our own net. The response from the boys was positive, moving the ball about, retaining possession and creating chances. The high press when not in possession allowed us to win the ball the back on most occasions. The goals came and plenty of them, Jack, Evan and Josh Hayden getting themselves on the score sheet. Altough not getting himself on the score sheet Jamie Meikle’s work rate up front was second to none and didn’t give the defence a minute along with assisting a couple of goals. Evan Bishop and Jack Simpson’s work rate also didn’t go unnoticed putting in a hard shift on either wing, but the effort and training ground practises put into the match was pleasing throughout the team.
Golds :-  with a few changes to the squads and a new signing, today could have been a tricky game, but everyone slotted in perfectly. Scoring a couple of well worked goals and an outrageous long range goal from Connor in the first half. Second half talbot really took control, and pressed really hard to get the ball back when they lost it. A really good performance today from everyone.
A special mention to Michael Mullen who had a really good debut in goals, and to Bobby Reid for good defensive work & chipping in with a few goals today.
On the whole a positive day at the office for Talbot and we would like to wish Dean all the best for the rest of there season.

YOUTH ACADEMY
 19s….
Talbot travelled to Ayr to face a new team with some familiar faces in the opposition team.
Talbot started the game very nervously and paid the price by conceding early to go 1-0 down. The early goal help Glenburn grow in confidence and they added a further 2 goals to lead 3-0 at half time.
A good halftime team talk and a change of formation had Talbot come out all guns blazing in the second half. Wright quickly made it 3-1, and it was game on. Talbot were now playing the. Entire game in the Glenburn half and deservedly made it 3-2 through Mason. With Glenburn now camped in their own half, a free kick by White was more seed by everyone and nestled n the net, 3-3.
As Talbot through everything forw d looking for the winner, Glenburn hit them with a 88th minute counter attack to steal the win.
 Full time:- Glenburn 4-3 Talbot
 2006s….
Talbot 2-1 Troon
A close game for the lads today with a fantastic display of determination to secure the three points. Talbot took the lead through a good strike from TJ Graham and looked to add more, but the lads efforts were halted by a strong performance from the Troon defence and goalkeeper. Troon brought the game back and levelled the score to 1-1 before a Gavin Kirkland goal put the tie back in Talbot’s favour.
The lads done well to hold onto the lead as they shut down the ever present Troon attacking threat in a result that sees us move up the table.
We would like to wish Troon Thistle the very best for the rest of the season.
 Goals from:
 TJ Graham
 Gavin Kirkland
REFEREES Man of the Match: TJ Graham🏆
 2008s….
Always competitive fixtures against strong Caledonian teams, today we expected no different.
 Blacks:-
After a positive result previous week, we worked hard midweek in training on possession retention and some set piece routines.
A very tight first half saw us slightly on the front foot creating the better of the chances and limiting Caley to long range efforts. A couple of intricate passes along with sharp movement allowed Jamie to open his scoring account for the day with a powerful shot enough to beat the goalies outstretched arm.
Half time came and went with the team talk concentrating on our possession retention we worked on and quality of pass.
Second half Caledonian came out with a bit of aggression and fight, we overcame this by moving the ball quickly and playing the ball around our opposition. Was a pleasing moment when our second goal of the day from Jack came from our well worked corner straight from the training ground. This enraged some of the opposition players and there frustration was clear to see. A finely worked move allowed Jamie some space in the box and to nick his second goal of the game and put the contest to bed.
Every player should be proud of there efforts today with and without the ball.
Plenty of positives to take from the game, a few negatives to be ironed out and worked on at training over the next week.
 Golds :-
The first half started with both teams having good spell of possession without creating many chances. But as the half wore on talbot gradually got on top and had a few chances with the Caley goalie making some great saves.  The conditions contributed to a couple of very soft goals conceded from the young talbot team and from there some heads went down. This is some thing we will work hard on at training. The team as a whole should be proud of the performance again today as it was clear to see some of the drills from training coming into the game today.
A special mention today to Lewis Laurie who defended superb & Aron Anderson who worked really hard in midfield.
 2009s….
 Blacks :-
Hard first game today lost a few goals early on. Once we actually started playing we had few nice plays and ended the game well on top. Good start to the second game. Passed the ball well and created plenty of chances, scored a couple of good goals also. Like the Golds a think we tired towards the end and the game got away from us. Well done Bilal and Ryan a couple of cracking goals.
MOTM Lucas  Campbell with some cracking saves.
 Golds
 1st Match
Really good performance from all the lads on this match – passing, movement, calmness was much better  – first touch could have been better though.
Excellent hold up play from Caleb in this game bringing midfield runners into the play further up the pitch.
 2nd Match
Puggy and I had kinda written off any expectation in this game as understandably the lads really tired after a tough first match.
We took this opportunity to try some of the boys in different positions
Some brilliant saves from Alexander and his distribution was superb in both matches!!
 MOTM ALEXANDER

YOUTH ACADEMY MATCH REPORT

2009s….Blacks: –

Really good day for the boys today with a few goals and a clean sheet

A lot of good passing and movement going forward leading to some nicely worked goals

The pressing from the boys was relentless making it really hard for the opposition to settle into the game

A great goal from the training ground between Ryan and Luke and something we hope to see more of in the future

Really hard to pick a man of the match due to the boys being excellent all over the park but bilal mahmood just takes it today he won the penalty to start us off, held his position well, broke up play and some really nice passing 👍🏻⚽️

Well done boys: MOTM bilal mahmood ..Well done bilal

Golds: – vs. Cambusdoon

Some excellent passing and movement led to some great goals and chances today.

Some footballing dark arts from Cambusdoon didn’t deter us from launching a magnificent fight back in the second game with Rudy picking up a great hat trick to win us the match.

The most pleasing thing for Puggy, Paul and I was the passing, movement & possession within the game which we have been working on every training session (although some of the lads are unconvinced)

Some excellent defending today with Alexander in inspired form but Lewis just pips him to the MOTM award 🥇 Well done Lewis 👍

2008s….Golds travelled to Kirkconnel on Thursday night to face Nith Valley. These games are usually cracking games, and tonight didn’t disappoint.

A very even game, with both defences on top for the most of the game. The hard-defensive work at training is starting to pay off for the golds with another good performance by them.  Still a bit of work to do, but progress is there to see for everyone.

Special mention to Douglas Schendel & Ayden Kennedy today as the have really embraced the new formation and were superb tonight.

2003s….Talbot 1-2 Troon

Back and forth game, Talbot had a strong penalty decision turned away and had a few chances before troon got a break and a tap in, troon then scored from a corner and went in 2-0 up

Second half Talbot’s kept at it and had one fall the wrong side of the post and one cleared off the line but eventually got 1 back through Jay Waddell, they kept trying but unfortunately couldn’t get the equaliser: Man, of the match: John Johnstone

19s….Bellfield 0-6 Talbot:            McClung: McLean: Wright: Mason: White: CampbellAnother good win today for Talbot, 2 wins out of 2 and a good start to the season.
