TALBOT BOYS CLUB NEWS

TALBOT BOYS CLUB NEWS

2001’s
Auchinleck Talbot 11-1 Hurlford United. Goals came from Jamie Conn who scored -4 Conan Mackin -2 Taylor Kerr -2 Lewis Hood -1 Rhys Griffin -1 Scott Whalan -1 Man of the Match went to -Jamie Conn.

2003’s
Girvan 3-3 Auchinleck Talbot. A really positive performance from the boys and were unlucky not to take all three points but an away draw is points on the board. That’s 3 draws, 1 win and 1 defeat in the last 5 games from last week. Next week the team are at home to Caley.

2005’s
The first game of the new season was against Girvan Juniors and the weather was atrocious with strong winds and rain. Girvan got off to a good start with a goal in the first 10 minutes then Talbot quickly pulled one back through Cody Gibson which seemed to settle the team. Talbot then started to play some brilliant attacking football with the Girvan keeper pulling off some great saves to keep them in the game but Talbot got their reward just before half time when Fraser Hume scored from defence through to attack. The second half was comfortable for Talbot with the whole team working together leading to Calum Wilson scoring the third goal. There was no one stand out player in this game as the whole team played and tried hard with plenty of commitment. This was a good start to new season for Auchinleck Talbot 2005s.
2006’s
Both the 2006 sides were up against it on Saturday due to a lack of numbers. Added to the fact that the games were played in very heavy rain made it very difficult for them. However, they battled on and played some very good passing football at times despite the bad conditions. It was the first league fixture after the summer break and they won’t be long in getting right back into the swing of things.

2007’s
The boys played against Caledonian on Saturday morning. Played well at the start and created lots of opportunities but weren’t getting the breaks in front of goal. They kept on plugging away and the goals eventually came. In the second match they started slowly but then found that extra gear and again played some neat football. The ball needs to move quicker in the final third though which we’ll work on in training. Special mention this week goes to Ryan Harte for a solid aggressive performance and some positive forward passing.

Saturdays Preview v Kello

Talbot travel to Kello Rovers on Saturday knowing full well that even the narrowest of wins will definitely see them progress to the quarter finals of the Ardagh Cup. Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over a resilient Lugar side coupled with Cumnock’s 2-0 win at Glenafton was enough to leave Talbot’s progression in their own hands.

Once again the coaching staff used Wednesday’s game as a bedding-in process, putting out the third change in the central defence in as many games while giving new signings Dylan Pooler was given a start up front while Dylan Stevenson made his debut.

On the injury front Allan McLuckie informed the website “Both Dwayne Hyslop and Graham Wilson have came through the last two games and are feeling good. Wullie Lyle did not play against Lugar due to a minor strain but will be available for Saturdays game against Kello. Mark Shankland’s injury is not as bad as first thought and we are hoping that he is out for no-more than a week.  Allan added “We have added Dylan Stevenston from Morton and Ross Harvey who has just returned from Australia and both players should be available for Saturday.

On the game itself Allan remarked “There is a never easy game at Kirkconnel, it’s a tight pitch and the Rovers have been unlucky against Glenafton and Cumnock. This will be their cup final and we will need to be solid all times. The players know what needs done and they will be going all out to get a result”

A win on Saturday will see Talbot travel to face the winners of Section 3 which will come down to the game at Annbank who take on Troon. The “Seasiders” have more or less qualified and look like the favourites to be Talbot’s opposition at Portland Park

Talbot add another

Talbot are pleased to announce the signing of Ross Harvey.  Ross began his career with Scottish Premier League side Rangers FC. Throughout his time at the club, he played a large role in the success of the team where they won the Scottish league and Scottish Youth Cups consecutively, with both youth cups victories taking place against close rivals Celtic FC. Ross continued to play regularly for the reserve side up until his departure from the club in 2009.

After leaving Rangers in the summer of 2009, Harvey spent all of his pre-season training with SPL side St. Mirren and was unsuccessful in winning a contract. He then played 2 matches with Hartlepool United FC before ultimately signing with Scottish 2nd division side Dumbarton FC.

In 2011, he moved to Australia to sign with WA State Premier League side, Inglewood United.

Ross can play in defence or midfield and his experience will definitely add to Talbot’s squad.                                    Welcome to Gods Little Acre.

Talbot sign Morton midfielder

Statement from Greenock Morton

Morton have today parted company with Dylan Stevenson by mutual consent in order to allow the midfielder to join junior outfit Auchinleck Talbot.

Following spells with Celtic, Rangers, and boys’ club TASS, Stevenson, 19, signed for the youth academy in season 2012-13 and spent two campaigns at Under-17 level before being offered his first full-time development deal.

He made his senior debut as a substitute in a Challenge Cup tie against Spartans in July 2014 and went on to make one start and seven sub appearances over the course of his Cappielow career, as well as spending time on loan at Dalry and Berwick Rangers.

Most recently, Stevenson, who penned a short-term deal until January earlier this summer, started last month’s Betfred Cup fixture at Albion Rovers and came off the bench at home to former club Berwick a fortnight later.

Manager Jim Duffy told gmfc.net: “Dylan worked very hard during pre-season to give himself an opportunity and get himself involved with the first-team. He started the game against Albion Rovers and the friendly against Swansea City and did very well.

“But it was hard for him to break into the midfield, which is his natural position, with the boys in front of him. He had a couple of options, to go on loan or to find himself another club, and Dylan felt it was better to maybe try a fresh start.

“We wish him well. He is a terrific boy who has worked really hard at his game in the time I’ve been here and he can look himself in the mirror and say he did everything he could. He just maybe didn’t get a break and sometimes you need a break.”

Wigton v Talbot Preview

It’s a big game this Saturday when Talbot travel to face current South of Scotland league leaders Wigton & Bladnoch at Trammerford Park in the 1st preliminary round of the William Hill Scottish Cup. Talbot will be firm favourites to progress into the next round but they will be taking nothing for granted.

Allan McLuckie pointed out “Wigton are at the top of their league for a reason and with four wins out of four they are certainly on a good run. We heard about their 9-1 defeat at Girvan but the word on the street tells us they were missing a few players and you don’t need to look far to see how well our pre-season panned out.  Wigton are a mix of players who have been entrenched in the SOSL system and some decent youngsters who have been in the youth set up at QOS and Stranraer so they will be formidable opponents”

Talbot’s season continued on Wednesday night with a hard fought point at Glenafton in the Ardagh Cup and Allan was rather upbeat about events. “This was certainly a game of two halves played in atrocious weather. We very poor in the first half where we gave away the ball too easily and I felt we were being bullied in the middle of the park. At half time I have to be honest and say we were lucky not to be down a couple of more goals. Second half we weathered an opening 10 minutes of Glens pressure and then kicked in. I felt we had a few decent chances before we were awarded a penalty where enough will be said about that, but it was pleasing to see big Martin get his head to a great equalizer.”

Talbot completed the night by signing former Killie and St Mirren youth player Dylan Pooler which pleased Allan. “Dylan comes highly rated to us and when you consider he has been capped at three age levels with Scotland I think we have bagged ourselves a good one. We have to remember that he has played all his football in youth game so it might be a bit of a culture shock playing in the Junior’s. On saying that he has fared well in his two matches and has got stuck in, I’m really looking forward to seeing Dylan progress.

Allan finished off by thanking the Talbot fans who braved the terrible weather on Wednesday night. “I wouldn’t have put a milk bottle out on Wednesday night but a good support came up from the village to cheer us on. You have no idea how much the players appreciate the backing. Thank you”

The officials for the match are Referee: Mike Taylor and assistants Scott Love and Brian Comerford. Weather report is cloudy with a 16% chance of rain, the temperature will be 16c.

RECOMMENDATIONS & RULES FROM WIGTOWN & BLADNOCH FC

  • Unfortunately, we are a fairly small club, this means that our car parking is fairly limited.

    As a result, if buses are coming from your end, we recommend they either;

  • (A) Drop off fans/players/committee in the town and they then walk down before parking in town (we recommend the Lorry Park on South Main Street), or;

(B) Drop off at Trammondford Park (our ground) and then park in town (once again, the Lorry Park is recommended).
The ground is actually out of the town and unfortunately, Trammondford Park itself doesn’t have a postcode but the house next to it has the following postcode: DG8 9BT.

3) The club’s normal code of conduct will apply, this can be found on our website.

4) We would like to stress that Alcohol and Drugs are not permitted inside the ground. They will be confiscated and being excessively under the influence may result in removal from the ground.

5)Smoking is allowed.

6) There will be a police presence.

7) We recommend visiting the Galloway Bar in Wigtown on South Main Street. Small, standard pub but the pint and atmosphere in there make it well worth a visit.

If you like a craft beer, we recommend a Pub/Restaurant in the town called Craft.

Talbot sign Pooler

Talbot signed former Kilmarnock and St Mirren youngster Dylan Pooler after Wednesday’s game against Glenafton. The talented youngster who has represented Scotland at Under 15, 16 and 17 level has been impressive in his two starts in the Ardagh Cup matches. Dylan is now Talbot’s fifth signing this season. Welcome to Beechwood Dylan.
