This Saturday will see Talbot try and keep their Scottish Cup dream alive as Lowland League Broxburn Athletic visit Beechwood for Talbot’s toughest tie this season. It’s a match both clubs would have done without, but its football and no doubt both sets of fans will be looking forward to an explosive encounter.
Broxburn have been to Beechwood twice before and have ended up seven goal losers on both occasions. However Talbot’s trip to Albyn Park last season saw a lack-lustre ten man Talbot lose 3-0 to a Broxburn side that were heading for a step up to the Lowland League.
The defeat still rankles some of the Beechwood support as the team was going through a rough patch in the league and had just been dumped out of the Scottish Cup by St Andrews. They were indeed there for the taking and that is what Broxburn did.
Broxburn come into the game on the back of a 2-1 home defeat by Civil Service Strollers while Talbot put Thorn to the sword albeit a friendly match. The “Badgers” were impressive in their televised match with Dalkeith so Talbot will definitely need to be switched on,
The club is asking the supporters to get down to Beechwood and give the lads all the vocal support needed.
Last Saturday those attending the match would have been pleased to see Kieran Healy make a small cameo appearance near the end of the match. Great to see the lad pulling on a strip again as he played for the last ten minutes. It’s been a telling time for Kieran after missing over a year due to injury.
