YOUTH ACADEMY REPORTS
2008’s
Talbot travelled down to face Cambusdoon on what was great playing conditions.
Golds,
Straight from the start of the game the Golds were on form with great passing and excellent team work. The scoring was quickly opened up and this continued with some outstanding goals until the end of the first half. This great play continued in the second half with again some outstanding play and quality finished goals, with 1 player scoring their 21st goal of the season. Another outstanding game for the golds, continuing on their current winning streak. It wasn’t all outfield players with Connor in goals keeping a clean sheet.
Blacks,
Looking to continue their good run the boys weren’t long in showing dominance in this game. A few well worked passing moves were put together creating space for wingers to cross the ball, leading to a few goals. Josh Kerr’s wide ball distribution allowed us to counter on the fast break with this bringing us a few successes. Cambusdoon couldn’t deal with our high press and struggled to get out at times. To their consolation Cambusdoon did grab a couple of goals.
The boys deservedly winning this match avoiding any potential banana skin and credit must go to every player for their hard work throughout the match.
We would like to wish Cambusdoon the very best for the rest of their season
2006….
Only one game again for the 06’s away to Glenburn. A few boys missing again for the game but a good positive start from the Talbot boys saw us pressing Glenburn and putting them under real pressure for spells in the first half. Two break away goals for Glenburn left the boys frustrated but we fought on and were rewarded just before halftime. Into the second half and again we lost a breakaway goal to leave us with a huge task to get back into the game. The Talbot boys played on and on another day could have ran away with this game but we couldn’t take our chances. Some fantastic football at times and great awareness but we need to be better at finishing. A good goal late on for Mason McNeillie but too late to build on. Great football at times and unlucky not to have got a better result which we would have deserved.
2003….
Tuesday
Caley 2-4 Talbot
Talbot started brightly and we’re up 1-0 inside the first minute through Jy Guthrie and 5 minutes later were up 2-0 when Gavin withers scored from a corner after a good delivery from Kyle Shankland , Caley fought their way back into it and bar two outstanding saves from Michael Nolan would have made it 2-2 at half time, second half Caley started the stronger and pulled one back, Michael Kane then got away and finished to make it 3-1, again Caley didn’t back down and kept fighting and playing nice football and pulled it back to 3-2, Michael again pulls off a great save to keep it 3-2 before jay Waddell finally put the tie to bed and grabbed a fourth for Talbot , a good 3 points against a spirited and hardworking Caley side who wouldn’t give up
Joint man of the match: Jy Guthrie and Michael Nolan
Thursday
Stewarton 1-7 Talbot
Very good win against 3rd place, jy Guthrie got the team going with a drive from distance, Michael Kane scored straight from a corner to make it 2-0, Stewarton pulled one back but Talbot didn’t let it faze them and hit the bar twice, had 2 cleared off the line and one blocked bravely by a Stewarton defender, the pressure paid off though and Michael Kane got a chance from outside the area and finished well to make it 3-1 at the break
Second half Talbot stepped it up a gear and played some great football the big man small man partnership up front worked brilliantly with jay Waddell flicking the ball on and Michael Kane reaped the benefits by running in behind and grabbing a second half hat-trick to take his tally to 5 for the night, Callum Walker finished the scoring by heading it on for himself, chesting it down and finishing well in a crowded area
To cap a great win and team performance
Joint man of the match: Michael Kane for his goal fest and birthday boy jy Guthrie for a classy performance in the heart of midfield
Saturday
Prestwick 2-4 Talbot
Usual close game against a hard Prestwick side, Michael Kane managed to put Talbot up 1-0 at half time with a nice finish
Second half the refs gave Prestwick a way back into the game by awarding a penalty that Talbot feel was harsh 1-1 Cameron McBride put Talbot back into the lead coming in at the back post with a header 2-1, Callum McConkie makes it 3-1 with another headed goal from a corner and Zac Mathieson then follows suit and puts in another header from a corner , Prestwick pulled one back with 10 minutes to go as bodies were starting to get tired after 4 games in 8 days the boys have done superb and now set up a winner takes all clash for the league on Saturday at home vs Hurlford
Man, of the match: Cameron McBride
U19s….
Talbot welcomed Irvine Thistle to Beechwood Park in the league cup. With a perfect pitch there could be no excuses today. Irvine started the livelier of the two teams as they pressed Talbot into mistakes and took the lead when a well hit shot from outside the box settled in the bottom corner. 0-1
Irvine were on top at this time and could have went further ahead but for a couple of good saves from Rooney. With about 10mins till halftime O’Donnell sent a speculative ball from his own half over the Irvine defence which the goalie totally misread and ended up with the ball in the net 1-1 half time
Second half and Talbot started to take control of the game and were passing the ball well and opening up the Irvine defence regularly. Talbot took the lead when a good run and cross from Campbell was controlled and finished well by McLean 2-1 and soon added a third when Wright broke away and his shot came off the post straight back to him and he tucked it away 3-1.
With Talbot looking comfortable now it was time to bring on subs, Meikle returning from a long injury and new signing Anderson. But there was still time for goal of the game, as Campbell crossed a free kick to the corner of the box where Shields controlled and volleyed across the goalie into the top corner. Full time 4-1 Talbot
Well played everyone today
